The Beatles Story, the museum dedicated to the world-famous Liverpool-formed music group The Beatles, will have a new, larger site in 2028. The iconic landmark will move to St Johns Shopping Centre, directly opposite Liverpool Lime Street station, leaving its current home in Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock. Once open, the new 100,000-square-foot immersive experience will be four times the size of the current attraction.
This ambitious plan has brought The Beatles Story under the stewardship of Apple Corps, a British multimedia company founded by The Beatles in 1968 to oversee the band’s creative and business interests. When the new museum opens its doors to visitors, it will be the first official fan experience that Apple Corps will operate in the city, and a world-class tourist destination for everyone. Using immersive technology, original artefacts and reconstructed sets – including props from Sam Mendes’ upcoming 2028 film project – the experience will guide visitors through the band’s history, from post-war Liverpool to Beatlemania and iconic locations such as The Cavern and Abbey Road.
A second attraction is also included in the plan: a Yellow Submarine-inspired experience inside St Johns Beacon, the tower that dominates the city’s skyline. This announcement expands the official Beatles circuit following the renewal of the London experience at 3 Savile Row, set to open in late 2027.
The announcement was positively received by international Beatles fans, local citizens, musicians and local officials – Paul McCartney included. He reacted to the news, stating: “I find it incredible and humbling that people are still interested in our story, and it’s very exciting to me that The Beatles Story and The Beacon are being transformed in such an exciting way in the heart of Liverpool city. I love Liverpool. It’s part of who I am; it’s part of who The Beatles are. If you’d told us this was going to happen when we were hanging out and getting started, we’d never have believed it. The extraordinary plans the Apple Corps team have shown me for The Beatles Story take me right back to that journey, from Liverpool to the world and back home again. It couldn’t have happened without Liverpool, and I can’t wait for people to be able to step into our story and share the experience.”
This expansion reinforces Liverpool’s enduring legacy as the heart of modern pop culture. By bringing together immersive technology, historic archives and iconic city landmarks, the transformed Beatles Story ensures that the band’s musical heritage remains alive for decades to come.
