Liverpool Stabbing (Liverpool standard) October 28, 2026 — East Liverpool City Schools will introduce additional security arrangements for Friday night’s playoff football game at Patterson Field after a 16-year-old was stabbed during the previous week’s game, according to reports by The Morning Journal, WKBN, WFMJ and WTOV 9.

The district is scheduled to host Columbus Marion-Franklin in a Division IV playoff fixture at Patterson Field. The updated measures were announced after the alleged assault during East Liverpool’s overtime game against Brooke on Friday, October 23.

As reported by The Morning Journal, guests will need either a pink parking pass or a handicap placard to park in the grass lot near the visitors’ bleachers. Temporary fencing will also be installed behind the visitors’ bleachers, and spectators will not be permitted to re-enter the stadium after leaving.

Which students face new seating rules?

Students in grades 7 to 12 must remain in the stands or in the designated student section. Pupils from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade must sit in the stands with an adult.

The district has also restricted movement around the venue. Students will not be allowed to walk on the track during the game, gather in restrooms or concession-stand areas, or go onto the hillside behind the concession stand.

What items are banned from the stadium?

Outside sporting equipment, including footballs and basketballs, will not be allowed inside the stadium. Bicycles, skateboards and scooters are also prohibited.

Students may not bring backpacks into the stadium. The rules broadly align with safety practices adopted by other school districts in recent seasons, according to The Morning Journal.

Will police presence increase at the playoff game?

Additional law enforcement officers will be present at Friday’s game. The school district will also broadcast announcements explaining the new safety guidelines over the public-address system before kick-off.

The district has encouraged spectators to report anything concerning to police at (330) 385-1234, or to call 911 in an emergency.

What happened during the previous game?

The security announcement follows an incident during East Liverpool’s game against Brooke at Patterson Field on October 23. WKBN reported that the district described it as an “altercation” and said law enforcement at the game responded immediately.

East Liverpool Fire Department EMTs provided medical care and transported the injured person to hospital, according to the district’s news release cited by WKBN. WTOV 9 later reported that the victim was flown by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

As reported by WFMJ, a criminal complaint filed in Columbiana County Municipal Court alleged that 16-year-old Derrick Harris was stabbed three times. The complaint named 19-year-old Romelo Ka’ron Harrison of East Liverpool as the alleged offender.

Who has been charged?

WTOV 9 reported that Romelo Ka’ron Harrison, 19, has been charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence in connection with the stabbing. Police said the incident occurred on October 23 inside a men’s restroom at the stadium.

WKBN reported that a 19-year-old male was taken into custody at about 3 p.m. on Saturday and remained in the Columbiana County Jail, according to East Liverpool Dispatch.

The East Liverpool Police Department is investigating. The school district said it would not release further details while the police investigation was ongoing.

What did the school district say?

In a statement quoted by WKBN, East Liverpool Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig said:

“The safety of our students, staff, families and community members is our highest priority.”

He added that law enforcement is present at all home football games at Patterson Field and that the district would continue working with local agencies to review and strengthen safety measures at its facilities.

The district also said counsellors and support staff would be available to students on Monday, October 26. Superintendent Ludwig asked the community to keep the affected individual and family in mind.

Background of the development

Patterson Field is East Liverpool’s home football venue, where law enforcement is already present at all home games, according to the district statement reported by WKBN. The stabbing occurred during an overtime game against Brooke, prompting an immediate police response and medical treatment at the scene.

The case has since moved into the criminal-justice process, with WTOV 9 reporting felony charges against Harrison and WFMJ reporting details from the municipal-court complaint. The school district’s latest announcement represents its operational response for the next scheduled event at the same venue.

Prediction: How may this affect local families and students?

For East Liverpool families, the measures are likely to make attendance more structured, particularly for younger pupils and secondary-school students, who will face clearer seating and movement requirements. Parents attending with children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade should expect to remain with them in the stands throughout the game.

For students and regular spectators, the no-re-entry policy, backpack ban and restrictions on gathering near restrooms and concession stands may require earlier arrival and more careful planning. The increased police presence and public-address announcements are intended to support a safer environment at Friday’s playoff game.
