As reported by Liverpool FC, the pupils attended an LFC Foundation event focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The club said the goals promote peace, equality, opportunity and global cooperation to address shared challenges.

The session was delivered through the Foundation’s Premier League Primary Stars and Onside programmes, which brought together pupils from local primary and secondary schools.

How did pupils learn about sustainability?

Pupils took part in interactive activities designed to help them consider their role in creating positive change. According to Liverpool FC, the exercises included a diamond-ranking activity in which participants prioritised the Sustainable Development Goals.

The pupils then developed and presented their own sustainable project ideas. Liverpool FC said the activities encouraged them to think creatively about building a better future.

The event also included information about Liverpool FC’s approach to sustainability. The club said pupils learned about its commitment to people, the planet and local communities through initiatives and partnerships intended to drive positive change.

What role did Wirral Grammar students play?

Wirral Grammar School sixth-form students addressed the attendees about mental health support in their school community. As reported by Liverpool FC, they described a range of student-led wellbeing initiatives.

Liverpool FC said the presentation highlighted the impact of pupil-led activities and connected the discussion to the United Nations’ health and wellbeing goal.

The Wirral Grammar students later joined the judging panel for the schools’ sustainability pitches, alongside Liverpool FC mascot Mighty Red.

What did the schools pitch?

The event concluded with each participating school presenting a sustainable project idea to the guest judging panel. Liverpool FC said the presentations showcased pupils’ creativity, passion and innovative thinking.

The club did not name the individual schools’ projects or announce a winning pitch in its report. It said the young people shared ideas for a more sustainable future.

What did Liverpool FC say?

Rishi Jain, Liverpool FC’s director of impact and supporter engagement, welcomed the opportunity to bring pupils from LFC Foundation programmes together.

As reported by Liverpool FC, Jain said:

“UN Day was a fantastic opportunity to bring young people from LFC Foundation programmes together to explore the positive impact they can have on the world around them, which is an integral part of The Red Way.”

He added:

“It was inspiring to hear their ideas, see them learn from one another, and watch their confidence grow as they shared thoughtful and creative visions for a brighter future.”

Background of the development

United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the UN Charter taking effect and is associated with the organisation’s work on international cooperation. The Sustainable Development Goals referenced at Anfield are a global framework covering areas including poverty reduction, equality, health, education, climate action and peaceful societies.

Liverpool FC’s Foundation regularly works with schools across the Liverpool City Region. Its Premier League Primary Stars programme supports primary-age pupils, while Onside works with secondary-age young people. The UN Day event followed earlier Foundation activity in the 2026/27 academic year, during which its Health, Learning and Employability teams visited eight schools and reached more than 2,000 pupils with sessions on attendance and personal development.

The club also ran a comparable sustainability-focused event at Anfield in October 2025, when more than 140 schoolchildren explored social action and sustainability through The Red Way. That event included project pitches on themes such as recycling, clean water, solar energy and responsible consumption.

Prediction: what could this mean for local pupils and schools?

For local pupils, the event may provide a practical introduction to sustainability, wellbeing and civic participation beyond the classroom. The format gave participants experience in teamwork, public speaking, project development and presenting ideas to an audience.

For schools, continued involvement in LFC Foundation programmes could create further opportunities for pupils to discuss issues such as mental health, equality and environmental responsibility. The inclusion of older students from Wirral Grammar School may also encourage peer-led wellbeing activity in participating schools.

For Liverpool FC and its Foundation, the event reinforces the club’s community-facing work under The Red Way. If similar sessions continue, they are likely to give more young people across the Liverpool City Region a structured setting in which to develop sustainability ideas and present them publicly.
