Step into the dazzling world of Dirty Dancing – the classic story on stage! The musical, based on the film of the same name, comes to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre from Tue 1 September to Sat 5 September.
More than just a show: a global hit
The show is a new version of the theatrical hit and has been delighting audiences all over the world since its very first stage debut in Australia in 2004. It was later staged in several other countries, including the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore and throughout Europe. It has indeed become a worldwide phenomenon, just like some of its songs. The musical, after all, features iconic numbers including “Hungry Eyes”, “Hey! Baby”, “Do You Love Me?” and the heart-stopping “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”.
The show made its UK debut at London’s Aldwych Theatre in 2006, captivating over two million theatregoers during a remarkable five-year run. It achieved an extraordinary milestone by securing £15 million in advance sales, making it the fastest-selling production in the history of West End theatre.
The story
Set in the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman is about to discover major life lessons as well as new dance moves. While on holiday with her family in New York’s Catskill Mountains, she discovers a new world that immediately attracts her, made up of dance and exhilarating late-night parties in the staff quarters. Captivated by the atmosphere, Baby decides to join in, especially after laying eyes on the resort’s handsome dance instructor, Johnny Castle.
From that moment, he becomes her partner both on and off the stage. These two fierce spirits from very different backgrounds unite for an unforgettable summer.

Age Restrictions
The show is not advised for children under the age of 14 – there are sexual references and the storyline addresses the topic of abortion. Children under the age of 5 cannot be admitted to the auditorium and under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
